Pastor for Young Adults
The overarching purpose of the pastor for young adults is to develop and promote a culture of relational discipleship among the young adult community. The pastor will recruit, develop, equip and oversee a team of lay leaders who will lead and disciple the young adults of the Hershey Free Church. This will be done in collaboration with the executive pastor, pastor for care ministries, pastor/director for adult community and pastor for student ministries to form a team working on and in the culture of relational discipleship.
The pastor for young adults will be responsible for building a young adult relational discipleship ministry that produces a community of disciples who are passionate about biblical relationships that deepen and advance the kingdom of God. This pastor will be passionate about developing a ministry with young adults, moving them toward life-changing Christian community.
Essential roles
- Identify, equip and coach young leaders for relational discipleship
- Connect young adults to Christian community
- Discover, develop and equip young leaders
- Oversee current college age and young adult AEFs. Ensure that the groups are well rounded and balanced in discipleship, worship, instruction, service, evangelism and relationships
- Create new young adult platforms
- Develop a training program for new leaders and to sharpen existing leaders
- Counsel and refer young adults in special need
- Develop innovative approaches to ministry in partnership with the other HFC ministries
- Understand communication values and utilize varied communication tools
- Have direct oversight of Young Adult Ministries, including 4twelve, Infusion and Theophilus.
- Partner and meet with Adult Community Team and Student Ministries especially in areas of life-stage transition. Partner with Next Step Ministries to connect and equip young adults. Partner with Engage3 to mobilize young adults.
The pastor will also participate in other pastoral duties, including officiating at weddings and funerals, counseling, visiting, participating in worship services as needed and maintaining contact with members of the congregation and community by e-mail, letters, articles and in-person availability.
