Child Dedication

Child dedications are an essential part of the life of the Hershey Free Church. We value our partnership with parents in marking this joyful occasion. After all, we know that children are a precious heritage from the Lord (Ps. 127:3) and that the family is a divine institution, God-ordained from the beginning of human history (Gen. 2:24). This gives us great reason to celebrate!

Our child dedication process consists of two parts. The first is a two-session class designed as an opportunity to reflect upon and discuss God’s desire and purpose for parents. In addition, we discuss issues and/or questions related to the child dedication ceremony. Class attendance is required for parents dedicating children for the first time. The second part is a special child dedication ceremony included in regular Sunday-morning worship services. In the ceremony, parents declare their intent to raise their children to know, love and serve the Lord. One of the pastors dedicates and prays for each child, speaking a Bible verse of the parents’ choosing.

Dates of child dedication and associated classes will be announced in the Sunday bulletin and on the website. For more information, write to Anne Marie McAlester or call her at 717-533-2092, ext. 2039.
